Indie Pop, Soul-Folk Songstress
Take one part bohemian
and one part brass knuckles,
stir in some wanderlust,
simmer at 100° in Texas weather for 30 years.
Remove from heat and let chill.
Serve Bekah Kelso up with a folk-hop twist,
relax and enjoy.

Each week, I write a new song for the Global Soulwriters Group that I am a part of. On Monday mornings, I get a new prompt (a word or phrase) and have to turn in a song using this phrase by Sunday night. This week's prompt was "lavender". Upon hearing the word lavender, known by many as a soothing & calming herb, I couldn't help but immediately think of my awesome young friend.
Ashlynn, aka "Smash", is a brilliant 11yr old light beam, who recently had her world rocked when, out of nowhere, she came down with a rare and serious inflammatory disease called transverse myelitis, which causes injury to the spinal cord with varying degrees of weakness, sensory alterations, and autonomic dysfunction (the part of the nervous system that controls involuntary activity, such as the heart, breathing, the digestive system, and reflexes). She's been in the fight of her life for the last couple weeks and people all over the country (dare I say globe) have been rallying with prayer, support, and fundraising efforts to support her and her family in their necessary ongoing care.
This song is my heartfelt contribution, inspired by Smash's journey. She's got a lot of healing to do, but I believe she will recover all the way.
Yes, she will SMASH THIS. And be all the mightier for what she's come through.
I hope that this song serves as a healing hug for Smash, for her family, and for ANYONE who must rise from the ashes. You are my heroes.
THANK YOU FOR PURCHASING THIS SONG AND SUPPORTING SMASH!

"Kelso, . . . Damian Rodriguez and a cast of complementary musicians, some from the jazz scene, some from the rock world, have crafted a beautiful album that's part alt-folk, part funky pop, part folkie soul and all captivating" - Jim Beal, San Antonio Express News
